Odds of Hanging On

Odds of Hanging On

In recent years, how we watch television—and by extension, commercials—has changed. (Hello, TiVo and Netflix!) In fact, how we sell basically everything has changed. (Hello, all of social media!)

If you're serious about staying in the television commercial business, which has seen steady but unimpressive growth over the past ten years, pay heed to the Internet. Basically, advertising executives have realized that the Internet today is a great tool to reach potential clients, and spending on online commercials is way, way up. We're talking more than twenty percent annual increases in online advertising (compared to just four percent for television spending).

Our point? There's still a future for television commercials (just like you still hear radio advertisements in the car). But that future is one increasingly entangled with the Internet. It would be a really, really smart move if you familiarized yourself with social media and digital marketing strategies.
