Fame

Don't expect to become the next…

Actually, we can't think of the name of any famous umpire. Is there even such a thing as a famous umpire? For someone who has the power to change the outcome of a game with a single syllable, umpires don't have a whole lot of name recognition.

You just might be inducted as the tenth umpire into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, but if the fact that there are only nine umpires in the Hall of Fame is any indication, you probably won't be.

Most likely, no one will ever know your name. You're not the next Derek Jeter or Babe Ruth. Fans are going to be too busy getting their favorite players' autographs to learn your name; the players will only bother to find out so they'll know who to complain to the league office about when you make a call they don't like.

But, hey, if you make it to the big leagues, at least your mom and dad can see your face on TV all the time. They'll love pointing you out to all their friends.
