Crop Yield

Categories: Accounting, Metrics

You reap what you sow, but not always in a 1:1 proportioned correlation. Crop yield is the amount of a given agricultural product harvested (measured in bushels or pounds) per the amount of land cultivated. It's also used to calculate the seed generation for each plant.

For example, if the seed of one wheat plant yields four grains of wheat harvested, the crop yield would be 1:4. For genetically modified organisms (GMO), the crop yield for those seeds might someday be 1:50.

And yes, this notion is where "bond yield" and other flavors of yield came from.
