Lean Startup

Categories: Company Management

It's kind of a double-entendre. Startups are lean by nature. No unions. No extraneous hires. Barely a secretary (you can get your own coffee and learn to use Kayak and Google Calendar and save 60 grand, fully loaded, a year). Startups are lean by nature because most lack cash and have to be clever about building growth. The penalty? Massive dilution by future investors when the company, being fat not lean, has burned through a million more bucks than they should have after year two.
