Context
This line is written by Ezekiel in Ezekiel 18:2.
Here, the Lord is telling Zeke that just because the fathers have sinned (eaten sour grapes) doesn't mean the kids should be punished (have their teeth set on edge). And good thing too. Can you imagine if every time your dad ate something sour, you tasted it? (Shudder.)
Where you've heard it
Today, the quote has pretty much nothing to do with what Ezekiel was talking about. When someone's bitter about losing something, they sometimes say, "Pshhh! I didn't want that gold medal anyway! What a stupid, gaudy prize. Glad I lost." That's sour grapes.
Pretentious Factor
