"When we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full."

And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full […] (Exodus 16:3, KJV)

Context

This line is written by Moses in Exodus 16:3.

Moses has just brought the Hebrews out of Egypt, which was not a great place, but now they're in a desert and there's no food and they're like, "Why'd ya bring us here, Mose? At least we had bread back in Egypt."

We feel ya, guys. Bread is the best.

Where you've heard it

Although the Hebrews were talking about food, today fleshpots are anything that offers physical pleasure—food, drink, sex, comfort, etc. "How was the camping trip, Vladimir?" "Fine, Cordelia, fine, but I'm glad to return to the fleshpots of the city!"

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

This one's very low risk, and it's mostly used ironically anyway.
