Why fit in when you were born to stand out?

Context

This line is attributed to Dr. Seuss, and understandably so, but he may not have actually uttered these words.

When you rhyme, you have a good time, but some people find it a crime, and would rather you mime. Dr. Seuss inspires millions through his poetry, with stories about nature conservation, standing up to bullies, and ruining your house with a cat. But sometimes he said things straight, without rhyming, and this is one of those quotes, although there is no definitive source for it.

If he said it to you, let us know.

Where you've heard it

You've heard this on your first day of school, before auditioning for a play, or in preparation for anything where you need a little pep talk.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

This one walks the line between telling you to be yourself (not pretentious!) and giving you a trophy just for being born (pretentious!).
