Come what may Why Should I Care

Why Should I Care?

Do you believe in magic? We know most of you just rolled your eyes. But we think this phrase is hinting at something much bigger and grander than the mere question of whether Antonio should follow his buddy Sebastian into Illyria.

To figure out what's going on with this saying, you have to decide whether you believe in magic. In fate. In destiny. In a higher power. In something that we usually put in sci-fi or fantasy movies. Is Antonio in control of his own life? Does he get to decide his destiny, or is a higher power calling all the shots?

If you think that we all have absolute control over our lives, then "come what may" probably isn't something that you'll be saying too much of anytime soon. But if you believe in a higher power—God or destiny or what have you—you might be more inclined to toss up your hands and leave your fate to, well, fate.

And we're betting you've heard these before: "When the stars align." "As luck would have it." "Come hell or high water." "Whatever happens, happens." If you've ever found yourself saying any of those, then you, dear Shmooper, are a lot like Antonio.
