What do we mean when we say it today?
Nowadays, we use this phrase when we're wearing our fancy pants. And chances are, folks know we're quoting Hamlet. Of course, people often aren't talking about Big Things like mortality and life when they bust out this phrase. Usually they're speaking metaphorically—and rather dramatically, we might add—about the uncertainty of what lies ahead—when we've shuffled off this mortal coil.
