Brain Snacks: Tasty Tidbits of Knowledge
Even though Job isn't at the beginning of the Bible, a lot of people think it's one of the earliest stories. We're millennia and millennia ago. Check out our discussion of "Setting" for a bit more on this.
Check out this verse from Job: "'Can that which is tasteless be eaten without salt,/ or is there any flavor in the juice of mallows?'" (6:6). That's right, Job is telling us that eating eggs without salt just won't fly. Heads up, archaeologists. Job can help us understand ancient trade routes—if they mention it, they had it.
In total, Job had twenty children, all by the same wife. Talk about an absent mother. Where is she this whole time? In any case, it seems like this is pretty much between the boys.
