Character Analysis
Miss Shepherd goes to a local girls school in Canterbury. Her school pairs up with David's school for dancing lessons. Miss Shepherd is David's first real crush after Emily. He gives her presents and steals a kiss from her in the coatroom – all sweet puppy-love stuff. But then David overhears that she likes "Master Jones" better than David, and that she wishes David "wouldn't stare so" (18.8). David's love dies.
