Samuel Hamilton Timeline and Summary

Samuel comes to the Salinas valley from northern Ireland with his intensely-religious wife Liza. He seems to have some sort of heartbreak in his past.
The piece of land he claims for himself in California is huge but completely useless.
Samuel and Liza have a ton of children: George, Will, Tom, Joe, Una, Lizzie, Dessie, Olive, and Mollie.
Over the years Samuel does a good job of keeping his family broke by trying to patent his many inventions and by never collecting any of the money people owe him for the jobs he does.
When Adam rolls into town, Samuel advises him on water and is hired to build wells.
Samuel becomes close friends with Lee.
Samuel lends a helping hand (meaning he does all of the work) during the birth of the twins. Unfortunately, said hand gets mangled by Cathy's teeth.
After Cathy goes away, it's Samuel who shakes Adam out of his stupor and demands that he name the twins.
Eventually, as Samuel grows older, his kids decide that he and Liza should come out to visit them. Samuel dies shortly after and has a well-attended funeral.
