King Henry VIII Timeline and Summary

  • 1.2: Henry hears the news that the people are ticked over a new tax. What new tax? He's just as surprised as anyone, since Wolsey authorized the tax himself. Then comes the news that Buckingham is a traitor. Uh-oh. Set a trial date, Henry orders.
  • 1.4: At Wolsey's party, Henry meets, dances, and kisses Anne Bullen and is head-over-heels in moments. He's masked, but Wolsey guesses who he is. Hooray! It's one big party for the nobles.
  • 2.2: When some of the council members knock on Henry's door, asking to speak to him privately, he brushes them off. Then he talks with Wolsey and Campeius about his marriage to Katherine (or, the end of it, we should say).
  • 2.4: Katherine's divorce trial begins, but the queen refuses to take part since Wolsey is running the show. Henry speaks highly of his wife and thinks the cardinals might be yanking his chain.
  • 3.2: Henry discovers Wolsey's secret letters to the Pope. He confronts Wolsey about them and tells him to pack his bags. Henry is not to be lied to.
  • 5.1: Henry warns Cranmer that Gardiner and co are out to get him. Cranmer isn't worried, but Henry thinks it doesn't bode well for the Archbishop. Then an Old Lady enters and tells Henry the good news: Anne just delivered a baby girl. Henry was hoping for a boy.
  • 5.2: Along with his doctor, Henry watches as the council meeting against Cranmer begins, only they can't see him watching.
  • 5.3: Gardiner is out for blood. He wants to throw Cranmer in the Tower and throw away the key. Not on Henry's watch. He enters the council meeting and gets mad at the members for treating Cranmer this way. Then he encourages (read: forces) everyone to play nice.
  • 5.5: Cranmer delivers a long, powerful speech about Princess Elizabeth at her christening. Henry is touched and can't wait to see what his little girl will do.
