(3) Base Camp
Even though there are some really heavy issues to deal with in this poem, this poem isn't designed to throw you any curveballs. The language is direct and the setting is clear. Even with a subtle reference to another poem (Whitman's "I Hear America Singing") in the title and in last line, you can probably pick out main message that Hughes was going for. So be confident! This poem isn't scary.
