Augustus McCrae Timeline & Summary

Gus sits in the shade and watches pigs eat a snake.
When that gets boring, Gus goes and pays Lorena for her, um, services.
After Jake Spoon arrives, Gus decides to accompany Call to Montana. Maybe he'll stop in Nebraska and marry his sweetheart, Clara.
When Blue Duck takes Lorena, Gus retrieves her single-handedly.
Gus keeps Lorena company while she recovers from the shock.
In Nebraska, Gus takes Lorena to see Clara.
Clara doesn't want to marry Gus; they're both too hardheaded. But she will give Lorena shelter if she wants.
Lorena stays, and Gus goes.
In Montana, Gus is shot with an arrow.
Gus manages to make it to a doctor in a nearby town, but both legs need to be amputated.
Gus decides to die instead.
He tells Call his final wish: to be buried back near Lonesome Dove.
Then he dies. Sniffle.
