Out of the Dust Chapter 102 Summary

Met

  • Daddy is waiting at the station to meet Billie Jo and her return opens up the conversational void they've been shut up in since Ma's death. Billie Jo tells him that the land is a part of her, and she can't leave something that's part of who she is.
  • Billie Jo demands that Daddy get his skin looked at because she needs him too much to just let him die. He promises to call Doc Rice immediately, and tells her that the pond is almost finished. He says she should plan on swimming in it and catching the fish he's going to raise, too.
  • As they walk home, Billie Jo feels herself beginning to forgive him for leaving the kerosene by the stove, as well as letting go of the blame she's laid on herself.
