Seven Scene 4 Summary

  • In the car, Mills tells Somerset that he has walked the beat for a long time, he's a detective, too, and he doesn't need to be sent out to do grunt work: "Don't jerk me off. That's all I ask. Don't jerk me off."
  • They arrive at the morgue, where it takes four orderlies to get Jabba onto the slab.
  • The coroner explains the man ate until he hemorrhaged internally. He ate himself to death.
  • There are bruises on the back of his head, but they don't yet know what they are.
  • Somerset speculates the man had a gun pressed to the back of his head.
  • Back at police headquarters, Somerset details the case to the captain, mentioning that after 12 hours of eating, the killer kicked the man, which caused his insides to burst, killing him. Yikes. That is not what they mean by Belly Buster Diet.
  • Somerset believes "the act itself has meaning." That's a lot of work to kill someone.
  • It could be … a cereal killer. Wait, a serial killer.
  • Somerset requests to be reassigned. He doesn't want his last case to be this crazy one.
  • He also says that it shouldn't be Mills' first assignment. "It's too soon for him," he tells the captain.
  • Mills is like, say it to my face, so Somerset, in his best Morgan Freeman voice, looks right at him and says, "It's too soon for you."
  • The captain declines Somerset's request to be reassigned, but he does put Mills on another case. That's the pits.
