Character Analysis
Helen is one Clare's oldest school friends. She's one of the girls who witnesses the Ouija board reveal Henry as Clare's future husband. Since then, she seems rather determined to figure out the mystery of this Henry character. One time when Clare and Helen are still teens, Helen meets Henry in person out on the street. Although both Clare and Henry insist that he's not her boyfriend, Helen believes otherwise. A few years later, when Clare and Henry spend Christmas with her family in South Haven, Clare reconnects with Helen during a party. Helen calls out Clare's lie about meeting Henry only recently. She has had it with the secrets. Clare comes very close to telling Helen the truth, because she values her as a friend, but then decides against it.
