Apparently, Plath's famous collection of poems, Ariel (in which "Tulips" was published), was named after a horse. (Source.)

Plath won the Pulitzer Prize for poetry in 1982, almost 20 years after she died. She was the first poet ever to win a posthumous Pulitzer. Pretty neat. (Source.)

In the 1600s in Holland, tulips became so popular that you could trade a single tulip bulb for 1000 lbs. of cheese! Of course, then you'd have to figure out what to do with 1000 lbs. of cheese. (Source.)
