apr 26 Learn More Studio 54 Opens

Legendary New York nightclub Studio 54 opened on this date in 1977. The hotspot was known for its star power: Andy Warhol, Cher, Salvador Dalí, Elton John, and Calvin Klein were all regulars, among many, many others. It was also known for its disco, drugs, and decadence. For one New Year's Eve party, the club had four tons of glitter dumped on the dance floor, leaving partygoers to wade through a four-inch layer of sparkly chunks that kept turning up in unexpected places for months afterward.
