Terrorist leader Osama bin Laden was killed by SEAL Team 6 on this day in 2011. Technically, they're SEAL Team 3. Here's the deal: When SEAL Team 6 was created in 1980, there were only two other SEAL Teams: 1 and 2. But commander Richard Macinko wanted to make the Soviets nervous—this was the Cold War, after all—so he named the new, third team SEAL Team 6, suggesting to the Russians that there were three other counterterrorist teams out there… somewhere.
