Have you ever gotten in trouble for showing up to class a few minutes late? When he was a student at Magdalen College Oxford, Oscar Wilde got suspended for showing up for school three weeks late. The dramatist, who was born on this day in 1854, was basically "over" the whole school thing at that point and left for London shortly thereafter. We have to question the rationale behind suspending someone from school as punishment for not coming to school in the first place, though. Seems like more of a gift than a penalty.
