About Me

Intro

Did you consider voting for Donald Trump in the 2016 election? Does the sight of two men holding hands make you despair for the state of the union?

If so, you probably won't have too much fun walking through my tree-lined campus, because I'm one of the most progressive schools in Pennsylvania. Founded as the Pennsylvania Female College in 1869, I accepted my first class of male undergraduates in 2015.

The boys have added a bit of rowdiness to campus, but I remain a school committed to social justice and gender equality. I'm progressive to my core and always down for a good old-fashioned debate involving words like "social construct," "heteronormativity," and "intersectionality."

I'm also bonkers about the environment, so it's no surprise that my biology program is amazing. My most famous grad, Rachel Carson, graduated from it in 1929 and look what she went on to do. I also rock when it comes to business, nursing, and psychology, but my real passion will always be the amazing planet that we live on.

Hometown

Yeah, Pittsburgh has bridges. More than any city in the world. All the better to bridge the gap between our country's current state of affairs and gender equality. We've also got bars. The most per capita in the country. All the better to get a drink while discussing civil liberties and environmental policy.

Halfway between Squirrel Hill and Shadyside, tucked into a well-hidden thicket of trees, similar to the Room of Requirements in that it's only accessible by those in the know, sits my main campus, where most students live and take classes.

Birthdate

December 11th, 1869

Body Type

What is a body but a shell for the mind? Who decides what's beautiful, anyways?

I'll tell you one thing, though—I'm beautiful. And so are all the varied bodies walking around my campus. 2,134 people of all shapes and sizes, which includes 512 undergraduates enrolled in the Chatham College for Women, 418 other undergraduates, and 1,204 graduate students.

They come from a variety of geographical and socio-economic backgrounds, so expect to meet a diverse population that will challenge your views of the world.

Current Living Situation

Ever wanted to live in a mansion? Now's your chance. My campus is comprised of land that once held the private homes of Andrew Mellon, Edward Stanton Fickes, George M. Laughlin, Jr., and James Rea.

When the campus became a school, those homes didn't get torn down. Now they've turned into classrooms, administrative offices, and—yes—dorms. The mansions give students a taste of what it's like to live the life of a wealthy industrialist. Not too shabby for a little campus in the woods.

Relationship Status

I try to be tolerant, but Bethany and Thiel? Not my favorite schools. I'm a member of the President's Athletic Conference, which consists of ten schools located in Western Pennsylvania, Northern West Virginia, and Kentucky.

Our sports are on the up-and-up, which makes the rivalries increasingly more pronounced, but in the end, nobody's too hostile toward the other schools in our conference. Right, guys? Right?

Religion

Politics

I'm a tree-hugging, feminism-loving, socially-conscious liberal who just wants to save the planet by championing social justice. The only tea parties you'll find around here involve actual tea. Organic, Fair Trade, sustainably-grown tea.

You should apply to me if...

you're a caring, environmentally- and socially-conscious person from Pennsylvania or Ohio who wants to attend a (very) small college. And if you like Bob's Burgers. A strange amount of my students are obsessed with that show.
