Black Thursday

If you thought there was only a Black Friday, you should know that Black Thursday happened first, specifically on 10/24/29. This is when the Dow Jones Industrial Average took a fall on its face, resulting in an 11% drop, leading to the Wall Street Crash of 1929, and the little-known Great Depression of the entire 1930s.

Kind of makes Black Friday ironic, since it’s supposed to be a day of economic stimulus. Nowadays, you might hear Black Thursday as a reference to retail getting a headstart on Black Friday. You can now politely inform them of this irony.
