Broken Date

Categories: Trading, Stocks, Bonds

We’ve all had nightmare first dates...but this isn’t one of them.

Bored with his current world dominance, Kevin Hart decides to start a securities exchange, trading financial instruments, derivatives, and more. Because he is only 2’8” tall, he decides that his exchange will only make markets in securities with exercise dates (for derivatives) and maturity dates (for bonds) that fall exactly 28 days after the first of the month (i.e., the 29th).

This isn’t a problem 11 months out of the year, but in February, no such date exists...so the transactions take place on the broken date of March 1st, before the usual pattern resumes on March 29th.
