Business Process Redesign, aka business process reengineering, is what a business does to completely overhaul their processes to make improvements to their metrics, such as increasing profits, reducing costs, or improving quality.

But this isn't the usual improvement effort...this is an effort for huge improvements. The advantage of this is obviously the improvement in results. The downside, though, is that sometimes it means rearranging departments or reevaluating staff...layoffs, or even just firings.
