Certified Fraud Examiner - CFE
Categories: Education, Regulations, Ethics/Morals
Vastly different from a Frog Examiner. One is in charge of giving Kermit a physical. So, uh...don't get them mixed up.
The Certified Fraud Examiner is a certificate for people who want to be...fraud examiners (duh). It can be earned via the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), a Texas-based group that is the world’s largest anti-fraud organization. The requirements are a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) and two years of related work experience. There's also a test you have to pass.
After becoming certified, people can become a special agent, a chief compliance officer, a government accountant, or a state investigator.
Remember Bernie Madoff, the Ponzi king? David Weber was a lead investigator with the SEC and investigated Madoff...he held a CFE. Interestingly, per an April 2017 Business Insider article, Bernie Madoff and David Weber are now teaching MBA students about fraud together.
