Euronext

The largest stock exchange in Europe is Euronext. It’s the sixth largest stock exchange in the world, and is the Frankenstein-ian baby of multiple stock exchanges, ranging from Amsterdam to New York.

Euronext has morphed a lot over the years as more stock exchanges melded into it and as it was bought up, spun off, and even divided (see: Alternext, an equity trading market). As Euronext has gotten larger and larger, there’s pressure on other stock exchanges to join it or buy it. Nobody wants to be the enemy of the ever-growing Frankenstein Euronext.
