To turn into cash or profits.
Like...you have this huge plot of 10,000 acres of beautiful land in your back yard. You've left it as a wildlife, um, mating place. But you know that there millions of barrels of oil beneath it, just whispering to you to monetize them. One day, maybe you will...and when you do, you'll plan those up/down oil well digging things all over the acreage. They'll monetize the oil under that land by selling it to Chevron or Shell or BP or others for 50 bucks a barrel or so.
And maybe the money lets you feel okay about all the wildlife killed along the way. Maybe not.
Who says money can't buy you happiness?
