Coin-collecting. It’s a hobby, really. Yes, some people make money collecting…money. But unless you’re a serious expert in the field, you’re usually buying from one, who has marked up the price of that 1878 Liberty Dollar…a lot.

Through most periods of time, those actually investing money in money would have done better to just buy a broad market index fund, like for the S&P 500, or the NASDAQ, or something similar. That said, it’s a lot more fun (?) to stare at collected coins through a glass or plastic window in a collector’s box than it is to stare at a brokerage report holding an index fund. Isn’t it?
