The Institute Of Chartered Accountants Of Scotland (ICAS) boasts the reputation of the world’s first professional group of accountants. It was made forever ago (1854) with the goal of implementing societal standards and norms to maintain integrity and promote proper education of accountants as a profession.
Like many professional organizations, it hands out designations, which are official documents those in the profession can get to prove they know their stuff (and have integrity—no snake oil being sold here). They give out Chartered Accountant designations, which is recognized worldwide, and have over 20,000 members to date.
