Theories that try to identify traits that identify leaders and filter out the sheep. Er…followers.

How charismatic is someone? How much courage does a person have? How stable is the person? There are numerous traits that have been tied to leadership. While certain traits are indicative of leaders, it doesn’t mean that there’s a guarantee that a person will be a good leader.

Even the most charismatic, honest, well-liked person can screw up leadership positions. Maybe the person is a fraud. Or maybe the person has the traits, but isn’t able to apply them. Whatever it is, trait theories do not guarantee effectiveness.
