Oregon State University
About Me
Intro
I'm going to let you in on a secret: Oregon is the most awesome state in the country. Yeah, yeah, I know—Hawaii's got the beaches, New York has the Big Apple, and Idaho has, uh, potatoes…but they'll never match up to the Beaver State. Oregon is home to forests galore, pristine rivers, and most importantly, me.
As the largest of Oregon's seven public universities, I am Oregonian through and through. I'm a country-kid at heart, but don't let my laidback attitude fool you—I'm a beast in the classroom and on the field. I have a killer engineering program and am really good at cool stuff like food science, forestry, and fermentation science (a.k.a. beer and winemaking).
I've also got a top-notch Division I athletics program that's home to some of the best athletes in the country. Sure, the University of Oregon—my arch nemesis—may get all the attention, but I'm a proud underdog with one of the most spirited student bodies this side of the Mississippi.
If you're a fan of marionberry pie, prefer filberts over hazelnuts, and are looking for a classic college town experience with some of the friendliest students out there, I'm your school—few things are better than being a Beaver Believer.
Name
Benny the Beaver.
Hometown
Corvallis, Oregon. But we like to call it "Corvegas" when things get a little crazy on the weekends.
Birthdate
1868
Body Type
With about 25,000 undergrads alone, I'm pretty burly. I love staying active and playing sports, and I workout all the time to stay in shape. When the sun comes out in the spring, you can bet I'll be in a tank showing off my super muscular guns. I'm woodsy and proud of it, so don't be surprised if I'm rocking a beard or wearing boots most of the time either.
Current Living Situation
Like most schools, freshmen are required to live on campus. My dorms are pretty basic for the most part, but a few are super fancy. The international-themed dorm has its own grocery store. Lucky.
After freshman year, a majority of upperclassmen move off campus. Corvallis is a small college town, so there are plenty of options within walking distance to campus. Whether you prefer an apartment you can share with your closest friends or an old frat house with room for dozens of people, you can find it for an awesome price here in good old Corvallis.
Relationship Status
Yeah, about that. I may be the largest public university in Oregon, but I'm not the only one. The University of Oregon lies less than an hour away in Eugene, and I am not happy about that.
The Beavers and the Ducks have been at odds since way back in 1894, and to this day Oregonians young and old are deeply divided as to which university they hold near and dear. The pinnacle of this rivalry is the annual Civil War game, where my football team competes for the prized Platypus Trophy. Bring it on, Ducks.
Politics
Overall, I'm a pretty moderate school. My student body isn't known for being the most politically active, and I'm seen as the more conservative of the two major public schools in Oregon. But don't get the wrong idea—liberal or conservative, you will definitely be able to find like-minded people among my 25,000 undergrads.
You should apply to me if...
you hate ducks and appreciate the small things in life, like a few minutes of sunshine in February or line dancing on a Wednesday night.
