Context

In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus lays down the law by issuing his Beatitudes in the Sermon on the Mount. Believe in God, have a pure heart: you know the drill. He also says that the meek will inherit the earth. Maybe Sheldon Cooper came to Jesus in a vision.

Where you've heard it

Christians still ponder exactly who "the meek" are. Secularly, this quote is often referred to in regards to geek and nerd culture: "blessed are the geeks" is a phrase not unheard of in science reporting. Or, you know, your mom might have told it to you in order to cheer you up after you didn't get the lead in the high school musical, didn't make varsity rugby, or didn't get voted "Most Likely to Succeed."
