Source: Ghostbusters

Speaker: Dr. Peter Venkman

He slimed me.

Context

This line is spoken by Peter Venkman (played by Bill Murray) in the movie Ghostbusters, directed by Ivan Reitman (1984).

Probably one of the greatest '80s comedies (and definitely the slimiest), the mega-successful Ghostbusters is about three out-of-work college professors who decide to make it big by starting their own ghost-exterminating business. Amazingly, they do in fact make it big and manage to save New York City (and the human race) along the way. The quote comes during one of the Ghostbusters' first gigs, when that loveable green blob named Slimer coats Bill Murray in gallons of ectoplasm (aka ghost goo).

Where you've heard it

Chances are you probably heard it when you watched this perfect movie. If that isn't the case, we suggest you stop whatever you're doing and fill that hole in your life, you poor thing. This quote doesn't pop up too much in recent pop culture. You've probably heard way more references to the lyrics from the Ghostbusters theme song: "Who you gonna call?" and "I ain't afraid of no ghost."

Of course, if you're a fan of weird massages, then maybe you've seen a reference in this video of people putting snails on their faces. (Gotta say, we feel a little bad for the snails.)

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

Anything said from Ghostbusters is anti-pretentious to the extreme.
