We're getting toward the end of The Great Gatsby here, and Gatsby is dishing on Daisy (in the privacy of his own...Nick).

The point of his comment? Money isn't something you can separate from the body. If you're born with money, you're born with money—and everyone knows it. That's also why everyone knows Gatsby's faking it.

Where you've heard it

This is a great way to describe someone as snooty or entitled without actually using those words. Not that we recommend it.
