"Look, George. Look what I done."

Lennie dabbled his big paw in the water and wiggled his fingers so the water arose in little splashes; rings widened across the pool on the other side and came back again. Lennie watched them go. "Look, George. Look what I done."

Context

Early on in Of Mice and Men, and we're already getting a pretty clear picture of Lennie.

Lennie doesn't get hands—he gets "paws," and he's fascinated with how those paws can affect the natural world. It's also as though, like an animal, he doesn't quite understand cause-and-effect.

Where you've heard it

"Look what I done." Sounds like a something a kid might say to his or her parents, right? And that's kinda of the point.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

Life lesson: proud ≠ pretentious.
