Speaker: Bob Marley
No woman, no cry.
Context
This line is from the song "No Woman No Cry" by Bob Marley & the Wailers, from the Live '75 album (1975).
Ask any Jamaican what Marley's first hit "No Woman No Cry" is all about, and expect some eye-rolling. The real title is "No, Woman, Nuh Cry." Nuh? Yah mon. "Nuh" is Jamaican for "don't." Marley grew up in poverty, and sings this song to dry the tears of his lady friend because, as he says, "Everything's gonna be alright." How very prophetic, Mr. Marley, considering your follow-up hit was "Don't Worry About a Thing."

Where you've heard it
Reggae music and summer fun were made for each other. This song is usually heard blasting at the pool, beach parties, street fairs, and even theme park restaurants. Other artists have recorded their own versions such as Fergie, McGraw and Hill, the Fugees, and Bob Marley's son, Ziggy.

Pretentious Factor
If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.
Uh—without the dreadlocks and cool reggae beat, the words sound like a Tarzan and Jane love scene. Maybe too chill... Nuh go there, mon.
