Speaker: H.I. McDunnough

I'll be taking these Huggies and whatever cash you got.

Context

This line is spoken by H.I. McDunnough, played by Nicholas Cage in the film Raising Arizona, directed by Ethan and Joel Coen (1987).

H.I. McDunnough has been in and out of prison for holding up convenience stores, but now he's ready to settle down with his new wife Edwina and start a family. Woefully, the missus is barren of womb and bereft of hope. So H.I. puts his burglary skills to good use and steals one of Nathan and Florence Arizona's famous quintuplets. What could possibly go wrong?

But uh-oh, baby Nathan just had an accident and the McDunnoughs need diapers. While the Missus is reading the "Three Little Pigs" to Nathan Jr. in the car, hubby H.I. heads inside a convenience store. Darn it all! He can't help robbing the store. He pulls pantyhose over his head, brandishes a gun, and tells the cashier he'll be leaving with the diapers. And their cash, too, because why not?

Here's a little fun movie trivia: a total of fifteen babies played the Arizona quintuplets in the film. There seemed to be a problem with the babies doing too much ad libbing. Directors Joel and Ethan Coen stated, "We kept firing babies when they wouldn't behave. And they didn't even know they were being fired, that's what was so pathetic about it."

Where you've heard it

You may have heard this from a young parent to their partner just before she or he heads out to the mall with their toddler. And if you and your friends are fans of the hilarious Coen films, you probably do your own Nicholas Cage imitations.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

This quote is great for a laugh if used in the right situation. Just be sure you pull pantyhose over your head and are far, far away from a 7-11.
