Source: "Royals"

Speaker: Lorde

"You can call me green bean."

Let me be your ruler, You can call me green bean, and, Baby, I'll rule—let me live that fantasy.

Context

This line is from the song "Royals," sung by Lorde on the album Pure Heroine (2013).

In 2013, Lorde burst onto the American music scene with her debut album Pure Heroine and no song was bigger than "Royals," which was all about—you guessed it—the Kansas City Royals. Just kidding. It was totally about how you don't need a pocketful of Benjamins to have a good time. Lorde knows what's up.

But one lyric was suspiciously misheard over and over again. When Lorde says, "You can call me Queen Bee," fans thought she might be saying, "You can call me green bean," which doesn't really make a whole lot of sense when you think about it. She may be the Queen Bee of the have-nots, but that doesn't mean she's a string bean, guys.

Where you've heard it

This is one of those little misheard lyrics you might hear pop up every so often on karaoke night. Just try to keep the snickering to a minimum.

It's pretty cute when this little girl misquotes Lorde. We'll let her get away with it for the sake of adorableness!

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

Oh, man. We've all misheard a song lyric before. You belt this one loud and proud, green bean!
