Character Role Analysis

Juror #3

You might think that Juror #10 should be the antagonist of this movie, since he's a total racist who has no interest in justice or morals. But as mean as that guy is, Juror #3 is a much better developed adversary for Juror #8—plus, he's the last holdout for a Guilty verdict.

We learn early in the movie that Juror #3 wants to convict the defendant because the defendant allegedly stabbed his father to death. When #3 tells the story of how his own son slugged him in the face and then disappeared from his life, we can tell that #3 has a bit of a personal vendetta to carry out against a kid who's on trial for murder. In the end, he makes a passionate (or raging) speech about how he'll never change his vote. But then he just caves and changes his vote, which pretty much ends the movie.
