Eggers might use a poetic turn of phrase here and there, but his prose is always straightforward and highly readable. And the same is true for the structure and form of the work: there's nothing wonky about the timeline, nothing experimental in the narrative arc.
You might get a wee bit tripped up by the convention he uses for dialogue. Instead of quotation marks, he uses the em-dash (—) to indicate that someone's speaking.
But hey, if you've read any of James Joyce's stuff, you'll recognize the dash for what it is…and if you can handle James Joyce, this book will be a total breeze.
