- Paul and Grant are getting along pretty well now, but they still have to go through the motions of the search because the chief deputy is watching.
- For the first time, Jefferson is willing to talk to Grant. He says that he wants to have a whole gallon of ice cream for his last meal because he's never gotten enough ice cream in his life.
- Grant gets the idea to bring Jefferson a radio to listen to in his cell, and he says he'd like that, but Grant thinks he doesn't believe that he'll really bring it.
- On his way out he tells Paul that he's going to go buy a radio and bring it for Jefferson. Paul promises to pass it along to him.
- At the Rainbow Club, Grant borrows money from the Claibornes for the radio. Then he heads over to the department store. The white saleslady doesn't think he has the money for the radio, and then tries to get him to buy the display model. He insists on a brand new one, in a box.
- Grant drops his purchase off at the jail. The sheriff tells him next time he has to get permission to bring something in, but still promises to give it to Jefferson.
- Proud of himself, Grant goes back to the Rainbow.
