• Rojack murders Deborah, his wife of eight years. After strangling her, he throws her body out of the window to frame her death as a suicide.
• He rushes down to the scene, where he meets Detective Roberts and a blonde singer named Cherry.
• The police bring Rojack to the station—they have some serious suspicions—but luckily for Rojack, he's able to get away without charges and even manages to get Cherry's number in the process.
• After visiting Cherry at her nightclub, the two of them return to her apartment and make love.
• Rojack spends the next day running errands: meeting with the police and setting an appointment with Barney Kelly, Deborah's father.
• Rojack returns to Cherry's apartment. They have a happy reunion, but it's suddenly interrupted by the entrance of Shago Martin, Cherry's ex.
• Rojack and Shago fight; our boy Rojack wins handily. He doesn't have much time to burn, however, because he needs to meet Kelly stat.
• At the Waldorf Astoria, Kelly reveals that he had a brief "affair" with Deborah (ahem, his daughter). This infuriates Rojack and he admits that he killed her.
• Kelly forces Rojack to walk along the guardrail on the terrace, assuming that a dude as drunk as Rojack will surely fall to his death.
• Rojack manages to make it all the way around, however, and hits Kelly in the face before running out.
• He returns to the apartment to a horrifying sight: Cherry has been murdered.
• Depressed, Rojack drives to Las Vegas. After a short time there, he decides to meet a friend of his in Guatemala.
