Atalanta was no damsel in distress. Known for being a kick-butt huntress and a super-fast runner, this lady had a habit of ticking off macho men who couldn't stand that a woman was better at typically manly activities. Some of Atalanta's most famous feats were drawing first blood in the hunt for the Calydonian Boar, slaying some unruly centaurs, and voyaging with Jason and the Argonauts on the Quest for the Golden Fleece. Her biggest defeat was losing a foot race to a suitor named Hippomenes, who she had to marry after. Hippomenes totally cheated, though, so maybe we shouldn't count it as a defeat. All in all, Atalanta was one tough chick.
