Ultron (James Spader)’s Timeline and Summary
- After several trials and errors, J.A.R.V.I.S. finally manages to interface with the alien intelligence that's locked inside Loki's scepter. Ultron is born.
- He starts out life confused and horrified. You would too if you had no body and immediately realized the full scope of humanity's inhumanity in the space of a few seconds.
- Ultron attacks J.A.R.V.I.S., then hops into a dilapidated Iron Legion clone to spoil the Avengers' party. He orders some other Iron Legion bots to attack the Avengers.
- The Avengers predictably smash up the bots, along with Ultron's current body, but not before he can declare his ultimate goal: saving humanity by destroying the Avengers. He peaces out by uploading himself onto the internet.
- Ultron downloads himself into a newer, shinier robo-body back at Baron von Strucker's lab, then hooks up with the Maximoff twins.
- With his new besties, Ultron heads to the African coast to buy some vibranium from a scuzzy, South African arms dealer named Ulysses Klaue.
- When Klaue confuses Ultron for one of Tony Stark's robo-buddies, Ultron gets mad—like, "rip off Klaue's arm" mad. Ouch.
- Ultron throws down with the Avengers (minus Hulk) when they show up to break up his purchase party.
- He's eventually blown up by Iron Man, but he simply uploads himself out of there.
- He reappears at the U-Gin Genetics Lab in Seoul, South Korea. This is the lab where Dr. Helen Cho keeps "the cradle," an advanced device capable of merging organic tissue with synthetic materials.
- Ultron wants to use the device to create a new android body for himself. He convinces Dr. Cho to help him by having one of his Iron Legion bots hypnotize her with Loki's scepter.
- Ultron removes a glowing, golden jewel from its casing in Loki's scepter and places it into the android body that's being prepared in Dr. Cho's cradle device.
- Ultron starts uploading his consciousness into the new body. It's going to take a while, though. (We guess he's still working with dial-up speeds.)
- Ultron hits a slight bump in the road when Wanda Maximoff uses her powers to sense his plans for the human race: namely, extinction.
- Wanda wakes Dr. Cho up from her hypnosis, who in turn shuts off Ultron's connection to the new android.
- Ultron, detecting the approach of the Avengers' Quinjet, zaps Dr. Cho, grabs the cradle, and hits the road in an eighteen-wheeler. Sadly, he's not sporting a trucker hat.
- Captain America lands on the roof of the truck, trying to stop Ultron's getaway. As a result, Ultron is forced to disconnect himself from the android yet again, focusing instead on trying to kill Captain America with laser beams and repulsor blasts. What a jerkface.
- After exchanging punches with Cap for a while, Ultron escapes the commuter train where he and Cap (and the now-hostile Maximoff twins) have ended up.
- He grabs Black Widow from the back of the Quinjet and, once again, makes his escape with her. Dude sure is slippery for a giant, homicidal robot.
- Back in Sokovia, Ultron confronts Iron Man in an abandoned church. They square off for a minute, but then Ultron unleashes his army of Iron Legion clones.
- Ultron can't gloat for too long, though. The J.A.R.V.I.S. android—his "vision"—shows up and, with a well-placed grip to the face, he blocks Ultron from accessing the internet.
- Ultron still manages to knock Vision out, though, then proceeds to take out his frustrations by tussling with Thor.
- For his next trick, Ultron summons his entire Iron Legion army to attack the Avengers. Their goal is to activate the vibranium core that will send the floating city-island crashing back into the Earth—wiping out billions. That's quite a trick.
- Just a few, large problems with Ultron's plan: the Avengers. They smash up his bot army and zap him with repulsor rays (Iron Man), lightning (Thor), and the mind stone (the new android) until he's forced to retreat. A for effort?
- Ultron's still not done, though. He boosts a jet and attacks the Avengers from above. In the process, he kills Pietro Maximoff as Pietro uses his super-speed to protect Hawkeye and a Sokovian boy. This robot is just the worst.
- Unfortunately for Ultron, Hulk would agree. He launches himself onto Ultron's plane and sends the robot crashing back to the floating island of Sokovia without so much as a parachute or "happy landings" pun.
- Ultron lies in a broken heap, but just when he thought things couldn't get any worse, Wanda Maximoff shows up and rips out his mechanical heart to avenge her brother's murder.
- At long last, Ultron finally goes to that big Circuit City in the sky. He dies.
- Psych—Ultron has one last trick up his metal sleeve. He finds one final Iron Legion bot to upload into.
- The bot is in bad shape, which is why Ultron is not more of a match for the new J.A.R.V.I.S. android (we'll call him "Vision" because that's what everyone else will do).
- He lunges at Vision, but they both disappear in the flash of Vision's mind stone ray.
- So now we can safely say that Ultron is finally, at long last, dead. Right?
- Right??
