Lamott is no prude, and she likes a sexy story as much as the next person. She's totally comfortable mentioning affairs, celebrity shockers, or the sex scenes in books that she or her friends and family are writing. But let's face it: this is a how-to guide for writing, not The Joy of Sex. Lamott is just as interested in school lunches as she is in who's doing the nasty. Bird by Bird is an earthy book, but it's hardly a scandalfest.
