The Judge Timeline and Summary

  • The judge shows up at a preacher's tent and makes up all kinds of lies about the preacher being a criminal who's wanted for sex crimes in other states. The crowd attacks the priest and the judge thinks it's pretty funny.
  • The judge shows up in Mexico when the kid is in prison for travelling with Captain White. The judge and his buddy Glanton bail the kid out of jail because they need someone to help them hunt Apaches.
  • Throughout the book, the judge shows he can do everything well. When he's not busy explaining his views on the universe, he's writing in his ledger book. Apparently, he thinks he can put everything he comes into contact with in his little book, including people, plants, animals, you name it.
  • After Glanton and most of his men are wiped out, the judge escapes by threatening to fire a small cannon at the attacking Yumas. He gets away and tries to kill the kid for always being such a wuss. The kid escapes.
  • The judge runs into the kid ten years after the Yuma attack. He pulls the kid into an outhouse and locks the door behind them. We don't know what happens to the kid, but the judge ends the book by starting up a dance in the nearby tavern.
