Young Bart is our trusty narrator. He's no hero—in fact, he does some pretty despicable things, including beating Tyro to a bloody pulp right after his sister dies (though to be fair, Tyro hits him first—but even though Bart makes a few bad choices, we have plenty of sympathy for him because we're seeing the world through his eyes. And hey, he's had a pretty bad year.
