The next major dispute focused on the whole question of God. Jung thought spirituality and religion were essential for human well-being, if practiced in a way that leads to the divine self—the god within all of us. Freud thought this was hogwash. There's no science in religion, he thought. Forget the ghosts and the false stories of made-up places. Freud believed only in what he could observe and analyze; all this art and yoga business was for kids and failed scientists.
